ABA Therapy

At Creative Therapy, our approach to Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is rooted in compassion, respect, and a belief that every child deserves to be supported as a whole person. We see ABA as a holistic health service, not just a set of strategies, and we work closely with families to ensure that therapy reflects meaningful goals that truly matter to the child and their family.

Our team uses child-led practices that prioritize joy, curiosity, and meaningful engagement. We focus on creating supportive environments where children can explore, learn, and build skills at their own pace. We seek assent from every child, meaning we pay close attention to their cues, preferences, and comfort so that therapy is a collaborative and respectful process.

ABA at Creative Therapy is about more than behaviour. It is about fostering independence, nurturing relationships, and helping children find their voice. Through a combination of play, communication, and skill-building, we support children in ways that are flexible, responsive, and designed to grow with them over time.

Families are partners in this process. Together, we create therapy plans that highlight meaningful goals, ensuring that services are consistent, compassionate, and empowering while setting each child up for lasting success.

1:1 Behavioural Therapy (ABA)

Our 1:1 ABA services are designed to provide each child & youth with compassionate, individualized care in a setting where they feel happy, relaxed, and engaged. Therapy is guided by science and evidence-based practice, using strategies that break down complex tasks into small, achievable steps. Through this approach, children can experience success at their own pace and build confidence along the way.

We use ongoing data collection to track progress and set meaningful goals. These goals may include communication and language development, emotional regulation, toileting, daily living and life skills (ADLs), social interaction, behaviour reduction, and skill development across many areas of growth. Every plan is tailored to meet the needs of the child and family, with therapy that is flexible, supportive, and compassionate.

Our focus is not only on learning but also on ensuring that therapy is joyful and collaborative. We value the child’s voice, seek assent, and celebrate progress in ways that help each child thrive.

Group ABA therapy: Children & Youth

Our group ABA therapy programs bring children and youth together in a supportive, engaging environment where learning happens through connection, play, and shared experiences. Using the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis, our groups are structured yet flexible, ensuring that each participant feels happy, relaxed, and engaged while building meaningful skills.

Therapy goals in groups may include communication and language development, social interaction, emotional regulation, cooperation, play skills, problem solving, daily living skills, and preparation for school or community participation. For youth, programming may also focus on independence, friendship building, self-advocacy, and life skills that prepare them for the future.

Our compassionate team uses evidence-based strategies, breaking down skills into achievable steps, collecting ongoing data, and setting individualized goals within a group setting. This allows participants to practice real-world skills with peers while receiving the guidance and support they need to succeed.

Group therapy offers children and youth the chance to develop friendships, build confidence, and strengthen independence in a safe and supportive space.

Caregiver Coaching (ABA)

At Creative Therapy, we believe that supporting families is just as important as supporting the child. Our caregiver coaching program is designed to empower parents, guardians, and family members with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence they need to help their child and youth thrive.

Caregiver coaching is collaborative and compassionate. Sessions are tailored to each family and focus on practical skills that can be used at home, in the community, and during daily routines. Coaching may include strategies for communication and language development, emotional regulation, behaviour support, toileting, sleep routines, and life skills.

Therapists work alongside caregivers to set meaningful goals, model strategies, and provide real-time feedback. This approach ensures that families feel supported, respected, and equipped to help their child succeed. Coaching is child-led and family-centered, with an emphasis on creating joyful, relaxed, and engaged learning experiences.

By building consistency between therapy and home, caregiver coaching strengthens progress, reduces stress, and fosters confidence for both the child or youth and their family.

Skill-Based Treatment (SBT)

Skills-Based Treatment is an evidence-based approach designed to support children & youth with severe or challenging behaviours in a safe, compassionate, and child-led way. At Creative Therapy, we use SBT to help children & youth replace unsafe behaviours with meaningful skills that improve their quality of life and reduce stress for both the child and their family.

This therapy is holistic and individualized. Sessions focus on building trust, reducing anxiety, and teaching important skills through positive, engaging experiences. Skills may include communication, emotional regulation, cooperation, tolerance, daily living abilities, and social interaction. Every step of the process is based on assent, ensuring the child feels respected, supported, and in control of their own progress.

SBT uses data-driven methods to break down complex behaviours into smaller, teachable moments. Over time, children & youth learn how to communicate their needs safely, participate in daily routines, and engage with peers in positive ways. Families are closely involved, with therapists providing ongoing coaching and updates to ensure that new skills are supported across all settings.

For many children & youth, SBT is life-changing, helping them move from intensive support toward greater independence, confidence, and wellbeing.
