Autism Spectrum Disorder is a life long neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, learn, experience the world, or communicate with others. Autism is usually recognized in early childhood, but is a lifelong part of an individuals identity.
There isn’t one autism but varying degrees, and each individual is unique. The term “spectrum” captures the many differences, challenges and strengths that each person with autism has. People on the autism spectrum see, hear and feel the world differently than other people. It is described as a spectrum because it presents in many ways, with each individual showing their own unique strengths, needs, and ways of connecting.
Some individuals may show differences in language, nonverbal communication, or social understanding, while others may show focused interests and unique abilities. People on the spectrum may see, hear, and feel the world
